I cannot even believe that I am on my 8th Stitch Fix in July 2017!

What is Stitch Fix? It is essentially a subscription service for clothing with flexible timing.

If you are already familiar with Stitch Fix and their program, skip below to see my review of my July 2017 box or check out this super-fast 1-minute video review of my entire fix if you are short on time. If you are new to this idea or just want to get a little bit more detail, stick around for the full details.

Stitch Fix is a subscription fashion service for women (and now men too!) that sends you five items (clothing, jewelry, accessories, handbags or shoes) for you to review in the comfort of your own home, keep the items you like, and send back what you don’t love.

I totally understand if you have questions, so let me dive into this in a little bit more detail before we look at my personal “fix”.

How Does Stitch Fix Work?

  1. First, you register at www.stitchfix.com and complete your style profile as a man or woman depending on the clothing preferences you would like to receive. For women, they carry sizes 0 to 24W, as well as maternity and petites, so nearly everyone can find something they love from this service. When completing the questionnaire, you will tell them your height, weight, typical clothing and shoe sizes, body type, preferred clothing fit, style, normal style needs and options (ie. are you stay-at-home-mom style or business professional in the office daily?), typical stores you shop, styles or items you want to avoid, ideal price point for items, and any major likes/dislikes. You also get to provide your links to Pinterest, Instagram, Twitter or LinkedIn if you choose to do so to show your stylist what you really like as well as your current style.
  2. There is a section where you can write a note about ANYTHING! Seriously, you can tell your stylist that this is your first fix and you want to be surprised, ask for specific items you have seen in other fixes (this of course is dependent on availability and timing), let your stylist know you have a vacation and want only vacation clothing, want only jeans to find your favorite fit, want only dresses, etc.
  3. You are now ready to order your first “fix”! Your card will be charged a $20 styling fee. However, if you keep any item (one or more) you will be credited back the $20 toward that item or items. Because of this expectation, I typically try to keep at least one item or understand that I am giving away $20 for nothing in return. However, from my experience, I did receive one fix that included nothing I felt was right for me, so I sent it all back. Although I am sure this would not happen all of the time, I was able to give it another shot free of charge after an email from the management team. I really think the Stitch Fix team is committed to make their customers happy and find you something you love.
  4. After your order is placed, you will receive 5 items in each fix. This could include clothing, jewelry, shoes, and handbags, as you prefer. Generally, I only want clothing in my fix, sometimes shoes, so I just always let my stylist know! Handbags and jewelry are less important to me in my search mostly because these items are easiest to shop for with four kids in tow. Clothing and shoes, not so much!
  5. After you receive your fix, try on all of your fantastic items with the clothes, shoes and accessories right there in your closet. You get to decide what you want to keep and what you want to send back. Shipping is 100% covered in your postage paid envelope that comes as part of your “fix” and you never pay to return your items. You have 3 business days to try on your items, dance around in things you are not sure about, and give those items a chance with options in your own closet. If you happen to have what I like to call a “Perfect Fix” and keep all 5 items, you will receive 25% off your entire fix! Fabulously great deal, am I right?!?!?!

I do want to note that while I choose my “fixes” to arrive when I desire a new “fix” and select this option for my program, this is in no way a set subscription service. Any user is able to decide when you want another fix, whether that be every 2-3 weeks, monthly, every 2 months, every 3 months or literally any time you select to have a new fix (like me!).  The program is 100% flexible.

Let’s dive in to my July 2017 Stitch Fix (#8)!

When your fix arrives, you get a pretty box with five items wrapped in lovely paper. You also get a  note from your stylist, style cards for each item, and an invoice for the full purchase.

  • Leia Embroidered Dress—Skies are Blue (M, $74)

Let me just be really honest! When I saw this dress was on the way (because once I see my items have been shipped I always peek…I ALWAYS PEEK), I already LOVED IT! I also loved that my stylist, Rebekah, noted that since I had requested to try some Boho items, “The Skies are Blue Leia dress has a gorgeous embroidery detail that gives this piece a boho vibe”. Sold before I try it on even though the cost is bit more than I would like to spend on a summer/spring dress? Possibly? Try it on, and feel like it is adorable AND versatile? ABSOLUTELY!

Verdict: I kept this without question. WITH. OUT. QUESTION

  • Tahj 2fer Knit Maxi Dress—Gilli (M, $78)

So, I am not even quite 5’3” tall. This causes frequent issues with long jeans, maxi dresses, and anything on the long side (I’m a little teapot short and stout…)

HOWEVER, this maxi was adorable. The colors were great, the front allowed for a deep neckline without too much showing (that is really a no-go for me after 4 nursing kiddos…the girls are not peppy and glorious…they need support and clothing love!)

The dress also was a PERFECT match with my necklace from Premier Designs, Old Navy Jacket and Flip Flops.

Verdict: Kept it and cannot wait until Fall and cute jackets!

  • Ellie Printed ¾ Sleeve Blouse—41 Hawthorne (M, $48)

I LOVE ELEPHANTS! Like they are literally my favorite animal and just my most favorite thing ever. So…I posted this blouse to my Pinterest page in hopes that it might be available at some point. And Rebekeh, the best stylist of all time, came through!!!!!

I kind of love her right now. If this shirt were cutting off my circulation or fully hideous, I would have to return it. Luckily, it is a totally winner!

Verdict: Kept this perfect shirt for elephant love!

  • Egan Textured Knit Tank Top—Papermoon (M, $38)

So, this tank is perfect and super cute on, but for me pretty expensive. Despite pairing with other amazing options in my closet, it is more than I would prefer to spend on what is essentially a tank top.

But! Sometimes it makes far more sense to keep your entire fix and get the 25% off than it does to return one item. In this case, this was completely true. Thank goodness, I actually loved the piece just not the price!

Verdict: Kept because I liked the tank and also had already decided to keep all four other pieces and liked the 25% off deal.

  • Kate Distressed Boyfriend Jean—Kut From the Kloth (Size 8P, $78)

I have literally yet to be sent a pair of jeans from Stitch Fix that did not fit perfectly. Does that mean that I kept them all? No. Does that mean that I totally could have? Absolutely! I am assuming that this may be, in part, to the fact that most of my purchases are cheap and probably cheap brands to go with it.

What I really loved about these jeans was a few things:

  • Distressed: I just really like the distressed style lately (perhaps I feel less like I am wearing mom jeans when really I should be in the thick of mom jean style?).
  • Capri or full length: I am short. I am truly only pushing 5’3” so tons of jeans are too long on me. These not only are perfectly cute rolled up as capris (and come that way) but can be rolled down as a full length skinny jean if you are short enough. Win!
  • Color: They were the perfect wash for me, not too light or dark making them too trendy.

Verdict: Kept and rounded out my perfect fix!

Well, there you have it! For me this round was a PERFECT FIX! Do I always get a perfect fix? No. But am I always excited as can be when I do? You bet!

I love it because it is easy and means not taking 4 kids shopping. But I think my favorite part is the surprise of new items!

I have seen commercials on tv about this company. If I had a full-time job I would probably do this. This is a great article telling us how it works. And all your outfits look great on you. Blog on and have a great time learning from Heather and Pete.

Thanks, Mark! My husband has tried the men’s version twice and got a couple of good pieces. I should totally post on that!

I love this! I have never heard of this program before. I definitely want to check it out. I love clothes but putting things together is not my strong suit so that is extremely helpful that they put a whole outfit together for you.

Tammy, this is one of my favorite parts! It is so nice for them to send you a piece but then show you what to pair it with. I am not strong at putting outfits together either so this makes it nice. Especially when I am creating an outfit for a work meeting or special event, it is nice to feel “put together”!
